Chess

The game of chess is a very intellectual game involving extensive thinking and strategy. This game has its origins in Asia. The current form has seen many evolutions in between. Chess ranks among the most popular sports today and is a professional sport too. Today you can play chess tournaments, both professional and amateur and on the Internet too.

The game of chess is on a square-checkered chessboard between two players. The square board has eight rows and eight columns. Each of the alternate squares is in white and black. Both players have sixteen pieces consisting of a king, queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, and eight pawns.

The main object of the game is to checkmate the king of your opponent. Checkmate means the king is under attack and you cannot remove it from attack in your next move.

Normally the player with white coins makes the first move. Choice of particular color for a player is according to any predetermined plan. Players play alternatively moving a single piece in a move. You can move two pieces only during castling.

You move your coins to another unoccupied square or to a square occupied by your opponent. You then capture your opponent’s coin and remove it from play. The movements of specific coins are according to specifications like a King can move only one square vertically, horizontally, or vertically.
